Diarist A08 Day07

Sunday, February 4, 2018
Well, today is “Superbowl Sunday,” which has absolutely no relevance for me. BUT…it means “Puppy Bowl” will be on TV + that’s pretty fun! While it’s fun to watch the dogs (and cats during “Kitty Half-Time”) the best part is knowing that these shelter animals are all adopted after the show.
We started our Sunday, as usual, not by going to church, but by picking up breakfast @ McDonalds and taking our dog for a ride. Yes, she is miserably spoiled + gets a sausage patty @ the drive through. Then we go to one of the city parks (McCullough) so she can run for awhile since our yard is not fenced + we don’t want her to run into traffic (some folks drive on this street as though they are at the Speedway). Our next destination is to drive to the northern part of the county to see if the elks are out on a farm up there—they are! It’s an overcast, chilly morning, but at least we did not get the snows that was forecast…yet. Then off to Lowe’s to try to match the bathroom paint so some needed “touch-up” work can be done. A cruise through a couple of car lots in next on the agenda. My car is shimmying something awful lately + has over 133 thousand miles on it (as it was used for work, it has been used pretty hard over the years). It was my hope that it would last through my retirement years, but guess I have just lived too long! Of course, the prices (on used cars 5-10 years old) is much higher than I had anticipated. (As a matter of fact, they are higher than I paid for my car when it was new.) Tomorrow I will check with the people who manage my 401k (such as it is) to see if I can withdraw money for a car. We went to look @ cars today because the dealerships are closed on Sunday, so we could look without a salesman’s pressure. I understand WHY they swoop in on potential customers (they depend on commissions), but it is not very comfortable.
Well…the meteorologists were right…the temperature is dropping quickly and the snow has arrived! The roads are getting covered and are rather slick as they are freezing now. Hopefully, the city will get their trucks out soon so the roads can be treated before tomorrow morning’s work + school traffic get heavy. My brother (who lives in OH) just called. It was good to hear from him—we don’t talk as often as I’d like and get together rarely. This gave us a chance to catch up on his family’s “doings.” His daughter decided not to return to college this semester, but has gotten work at their local Target store. I know he worries about her, but she is young and has lots of time (God Willing) to figure out what she wants to do with her life. Time to finish up a load of laundry; take out he dog; and then off to bed.
