Diarist A13 Day09

Diary Monday September 15 2018:

6:00am-6:30 am : I wake up early because I have a very early class at 8am. I also do my ablutions and do the morning prayer. My kids slept early last night so I was hoping they would wake up by themselves, but they didn’t. I had to wake them up by tickling them both. After eating two cookies and drinking some milk both of them were awake. I get them dressed and dress myself as I think that I will get coffee before class.

6:30am -7:15am: We are all ready, we head towards the door, hoping that I didn’t forget anything. I feel a bit tired but think that I will feel better when I have coffee. I drop my children off at daycare and head to campus.

7:15 am :8:00am : I get to campus and think on the new round about. I don’t really like it as it make it much harder to walk now. It’s a longer walk and I am frustrated waiting for the BSU bus that will take me to my class on campus.

8:00am 8:50 am: I give class, introducing a new project to students. I’m very optimistic and hope that they will do well in this assignment as well. The students look tired and half asleep, typical of 8:00 am classes, but they are more awake when we get started. The class ends on a good note and I head to the center to provide tutoring for an hour.

9:00am- 9:50: I am in the center torturing one of my friends who needs help with a conference paper. I really like to see what other people are working on, it makes me more aware of things out in the world and maybe gives me ideas for free time reading, especially when I do the laundry.

10:00am- 10:50am: I’m in my office preparing for my 11: o’clock class. I’m looking forward to having lunch too with two of my collogues at 12pm. I’m thinking about different ways to organize my office as I think I need to bring in office snacks and maybe a coffee maker for those early mornings that I rush out of the door, and don’t have time to prepare coffee.

10:50am- 11:50am: I went to an adjoining building to give class, as I wish that this class would be very successful. I create lesson plans for every class and I think I like to have an idea about how a class will playout. However, sometimes I find myself improvising and I really like the creative ideas I have then.

11:50am:12:50pm:  I go to see if my friend wants lunch, but she apologizes as she already made lunch plans and she wasn’t feeling well. So, I asked my other friend if she would like to have lunch with me and she agreed to have lunch together. We took sandwich wraps and sierra mists from the Atrium.

12:50pm- 1:30pm: I went to discuss registration matters with an academic advisor, as well as revised some chapter revisions, which I am working on all week. It’s due this Friday, and I’m wondering if I could finish it before then.

1:30pm-2:50pm: I go the tutoring center to revise my chapter with a tutor and to see if I made sense in the parts that seemed a bit confusing to me. I’m so happy with the changes we’ve made and decide to go home to take a short break before making more revisions.

2:50pm:3:30pm: I get home and decide to cook for my family, something fast and simple. So I decide to cut Spanish onions, tomatoes, and tomatoes purée, and pot them in a saucepan to simmer. Then I cooked white rice along with it. I have this new infatuation with fish fingers, so I added them to the air fryer and waited on them to cook, because I don’t like them too dry.

3:30pm-4:30pm: I watch a new Spanish Telenovela on Hulu, because I have made a new goal to learn a bit of Spanish. Listening has helped a lot. Now I know different phrases and sometimes I can understand the context of the conversation but not every single word.

4:30pm-6:00pm: I decide to take a shower because it was a bit warm that day, and before I go back to pick up the kids again. I call my husband who has left for the gym and I ask if he sounds all right. It turns out he hurt his hand while playing basketball, and I think he broke his wrist, because when he came home it was swollen. I asked him to see the doctor, and he said he’ll wait and see if it gets better.

6:00pm-7:30pm: I pick up the kids and we go home to eat dinner. My son like movies now so every day I would choose a movie we could watch together. He is so good at following the plot of the movie and also reading the characters facial expressions. My daughter watches with us too, but sometimes she wonders off to get her tea set and play with that.

7:30pm- 8:30pm: Bedtime routine. I ask my kids to brush their teeth and put on their pajamas. We read a couple of stories together. Then I turn off the light and ask them to sleep. They say their goodnights and I leave the door a bit open so that they can see the light in the hallway. They tell me they don’t like it when it is dark.

8:30pm- 10:00pm: I spend some time on my chapter again, revising parts, and moving things around in the draft. I make green tea as it helps me stay awake, for a few hours at least, so I can read and tidy the living room too. It’s always a mess at the end of the day. I think about my plans for tomorrow and wonder if I should make dentist appointments for the kids too.

10:00pm-11:00pm: I decide that it is time to sleep, but I spend a few minutes reading before I finally feel tired and turn the light off to sleep. I know it takes me sometime to fall asleep, so I decide that I might consider cutting green tea from my nightly drinks.
