Diarist A23 Day13

EDLM

2/20/20

Since the last diary, I have tried to figure out how to make myself more comfortable being here in Muncie. My earlier entry was highlighted on EDLM “Four Muncies” series; I was the “Reluctant Transplant”, and that entry was very grumpy. I am trying to begin doing something very positive for the city (for me), and we will see if it takes off. Given the very public nature of this venture, sadly I cannot elaborate further. I need to be part of a good thing, and if that means doing something good for Muncie, then I can live with that.

7:15am – woke up before my alarm. I am getting over a cold, and don’t quite feel cruddy enough to stay home, but I really wish I felt just a little bit worse so I could call in with a clear conscience. I lay in bed until 8:05, trying to talk myself into getting up.

8:05am – Shower, finding clothes, taking out the trash, and getting to work by 8:35. I love that my commute is so short, and I love even more not having to wait 10 minutes for my car to defrost; it was clear this morning!

8:35am – Making coffee at work. A co-worker walks in, having been dropped off by the MITS bus at the neighboring grocery store. It’s too cold for people to have to walk that far; I feel bad for her. I prep for a meeting with our director, having no idea if it is going to be “bad” or not.

9:15am – It wasn’t “bad”, but we both had an opportunity to set each other straight on various points. All parties involved were better off for having the meeting.

9:30-1:30 – Work, part 1. Work has been very busy of late (since the calendar turned 2020). I start in on doing some of the things that I discussed with my director. Alas, adding any more detail than this would probably give away who I am.

1:30-2:30 – lunch – I really forgot where I did lunch today; I am writing this 2 weeks after the fact. Typically I do better at finishing these promptly.

2:30-5:30 – Work, part 2. My least productive time of the day. I feel like I get in to work each day, and power through several things during my first 4 hours. So then when I get to the afternoon, I feel accomplished, and not terribly driven until I leave.

5:30-8:00 – I attend a book club that meets at the Fickle Peach. This month we read “Around the World in 80 Days”. There were a lot more people there than I was expecting. Given the book is kind of steampunk literature, there were several people in attendance from Muncie’s local Steampunk Consortium. It was fun seeing the people that have never heard of steampunk interact with those folks. It was a fun time! After that, my hubby and I stop for dinner at Sunshine Café, then head home.

8:00-10:30 – It is Thursday, and that means it is time for our favorite show, Critical Role. I never thought a 4-hour-long Dungeons and Dragons session would become my primary source of entertainment, but here we are! Tonight is a fun break from the watch-it-whenever-you-want world of streaming content. The live stream of this game is a nice throwback to when people would all gather at a very specific time to catch some bit of popular culture. For this, everyone is doing the same thing at 10pm on Thursdays…

10:30 – …but I am old now so of course I pass out by 10:30.
