Diarist B35 Day 17

vanilla day. that phrase, though, i should retire because i find vanilla to be a rich and complex

flavor, not the mediocre, bland, meh that the phrase evokes. today seemed a drab day.

woke up to my alarm – i haven’t done that in a while. this means i slept all the way through the

night. maybe it was the two beers and pipe of tobacco (i feel like i have to specify) the night

before? i’m sure it was that compounded with something entirely different.

let the cats in. let the dog out. cats into the main house; the dog into the yard for his usual

morning “constitutional.” foundered for a minute or two on the couch in the dark and cozy family

room. the dog came back in and went back to bed.

made myself toast and cold coffee. and some yogurt. finished an episode of an old tv show and

began a movie i have been wanting to watch for years. movies are more like books now in that

you can start and stop them as needed, picking up where you left off later until the end.

opened the curtains and sliding doors for the cats. was going to make sure my son was awake

but he greeted me from the kitchen.

drove to work and began that portion of my day. it might prove to be a challenging one – or it

could turn out to be a really sedate one. later will tell.

the morning was crisp but not cold. i love autumn weather. all the while i pondered this

upcoming weekend, the tasks for the day, and what we might be having for dinner that night.

home for lunch as usual. let the dog out, ate, and watched more of the movie from this morning.

again, bookmarking it with the pause button once lunch was over.

work was mostly bland but not full on blah. i did have to get out of my office several times for

various reasons which made it a bit unusual but certainly not challenging.

came home, did my daily five-mile bike ride in my neighborhood and on the Cardinal Greenway,

watched the end of the movie, got pizza for dinner, then settled into a couple of hours of

streaming entertainment indecisiveness before a very early bedtime. out of fuel
