Diarist C47 Day12

8:30 a.m.

I wake to the clicking of the chain on the ceiling fan. I need to remember to fix that.

I get up and check the calendar on my phone to verify there really isn’t anything scheduled for today. What a rare thing that is! I vow to myself to make it a day of rest and rejuvenation.  I will ONLY do things I want to do.

It is October 1st. Sigh.  It’s October 1st so I will only do things I want to do… and pay bills.

Fix my Weight Watchers pancake and head to the porch to eat and read my devotional. I think about the yard work that I want to do today and look forward to spending the afternoon reading in the hammock.  Maybe later I’ll even give myself a facial and a pedicure. I finish breakfast and my devotions and head in to pay bills.

10:30 a.m.

My husband calls and needs to go to Indy for work. He invites me to go with him and have lunch. He says we can go to one of my favorites, FDRs. What this really means is that he wants me to drive to Indy because his eyesight is getting worse and he doesn’t like to drive to unfamiliar places, especially on exceptionally bright and sunny days that create lots of glare. I agree and then continue to work on the bills until he comes to get me.

So, I will only do things I want to do… and pay bills… and drive my husband to Indy.

When I get home, I think, I will still have time to do the yard work and some reading in the hammock before the mosquitoes come out.

11:30 a.m.

We head to FDRs where we have a nice lunch.  I opt for the tenderloin sliders and sweet potatoes instead of my usual tacos. We go on to the distributor he needs to stop at and pick up the items he needs.

3:00 p.m.

We head home. Traffic on I-69 is backed up but is, at least, moving.  We’re about halfway home when my daughter calls to see if I’m coming to my grandson’s race at 4:30. Because it is an away meet, it wasn’t on my calendar because I hadn’t planned to go. She mentions that she just thought we could ride together since she’ll be going by herself. Her husband is taking their other son to soccer practice. I tell her I will try to get to her house in time to leave for the meet.

So, I will only do things I want to do… and pay bills… and drive my husband to Indy… and go to the cross country meet.

4:30 p.m.

We arrive and the meet and let my grandson know we are there.  It is hot – really hot.  In spite of that, my grandson runs a good race and we stay to cheer on the girl’s team before heading home.  We drive home with the a/c on full blast and talk about how ridiculously hot it is for the first of October.

6:30 p.m.

After arriving home I get some iced tea and get in about 15 minutes of picking tomatoes and weed pulling before the mosquitoes decide I look like a delicious dinner.  I come in and by the time I finish my shower my husband arrives home from work.  We fix our own dinners with leftovers.  I have a Philly cheese steak wrap and a few chips.  He turns on the TV and we watch his favorite, NCIS, followed by one of my favorites, This Is Us, and then NCIS New Orleans.  Tuesday night is always a full night of TV. I check Facebook and Twitter while we watch.

11:30 p.m.

My husband goes to bed and I watch the monologue on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.  Then I watch the recording of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’s monologue. The late night talk shows help keep me sane these days because the country is a dumpster fire.

1:00 a.m.

I head to bed.

So, I did one of the things I wanted to do today – but the bills are paid, I had a great lunch, and got to see my grandson run a great race.

It was a good day.
