The Modern Politics of Middletown

Chad Kinsella is Assistant Professor of Political Science and the project director for The Modern Politics of Middletown.  His research focuses primarily on electoral geography but he also examines state and local government, federalism, and pedagogy.  The Modern Politics of Middletown is a multidisciplinary and multimodal investigation of the spatial dynamics of voting behavior and turnout in Delaware County, Indiana, from 1976-2016.  It’s primary output will be a series of interactive digital maps and archive that document the interplay of demographic factors and partisan sorting on a granular scale.  It is designed to be a model for analyzing political polarization across the U.S. The project is also supported by the Center for Middletown Studies.
