DSL Workshop: Big Data and Smart Computing

DSL Workshop: Big Data and Smart Computing
Shoen Wu & Spencer Davis
Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 2:00-3:30 PM
GIS Research and Map Collection, Bracken Library Room 224

This hands-on workshop is designed to introduce potential users to Ball State’s new computation capacity. This NSF-funded resource provides the infrastructure necessary to conduct research on big data in its various forms. Examples include large-scale data/text analysis, bioinformatics/cheminformatics, numerical computing, machine learning and deep learning voice recognition research, language translation, and accelerated graphics rendering for 3D modeling. The new infrastructure has 500 TB of storage and creates opportunities for faculty from many disciplines to engage in research that analyzes big data in the various forms it can take.

The Workshop will take place in Bracken Library Room 224 (the GIS Research and Map Collection area), and is a follow-up to the information sessions presented by Dr. Shoen Wu at the DSL Digital Feeds on September 19 & 20. Attendance at one of the information sessions is NOT a prerequisite for participating in the workshop. The Workshop will help users get started on research projects that employ the university’s computation resources.
