Digital Feed – The Future of User Experience

Digital Feed – The Future of User Experience

Jeff Berg

On Monday, October 22, 2018, the Digital Scholarship Lab hosted Jeff Berg’s Digital Feed talk, “The Future of User Experience.” Berg, senior Digital Designer for Arup, an international urban planning, design and architecture firm, has unique experience employing coding and design to create engaging end-user experiences for cultural, government and commercial entities around the world. In Berg’s view, the end game of user experience design is no dedicated user interface at all. The “Interface of Everything,” as Berg terms it, will be the loosely coupled systems that connect and enhance all attributes of the physical and virtual elements of built environments. Berg contends that what urban designers are engaged in now is what the rest of the tech industry will pursue: a world where data is pervasive and ubiquitous and accessing it does not require the intervention of a device. In short, the world becomes the user interface. This event was co-sponsored by the University Libraries, the Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts (IDIA) and the College of Architecture and Planning.
