A Study of Disparities in Healthcare Resources for Vulnerable Populations

Mengxi Zhang, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences,conducts research on acculturation and health among refugees in the United States, well-being among rural-to-urban Migrants in southeast ssia; disaster resilience among refugees in the United States, and the evaluation of medical interventions Evaluation. She is completing a pilot interdisciplinary project to help study and reduce health disparities in the U.S. This initial effort measures and address geographic disparities in the distribution of healthcare resources among vulnerable populations in Indiana, particularly in refugee communities. The project employs a mix if GIS tools, data analysis, and both analog and digital interventions. The purpose of the prototype is to support funding applications to the National Institutes of Health and other sources.
