Global Manure Phosphorus Production during 1960–2016: a 5-arcminute Gridded Global Dataset for Earth System Modeling (GMPP)

Bowen Zhang is Assistant Professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Management. Her research examines the behavior of greenhouse gases, particularly in response to global changes, including climate, land use and land management practices. Her DSL-supported project explores the impact of manure phosphorus production and its application to cropland across the globe, an issue with significant implications for our understanding of food production, water quality, and climate change. This effort, which combines big data analysis and the use of GIS technologies, employs BSU’s cluster computing technologies to produce a high-resolution global dataset examining phosphorus manure and its application to cropland from 1960 to 2016. It will form the basis for an application to the National Science Foundation for further funding to investigate these issues.
