Diarist A08 Day10

BSU Diary Project

12/15/18

Weather continues to be mild, but rain/wind makes it feel pretty raw outside this morning.

After making our usual early morning trip to McCullough Park with the dog, we got ourselves together to travel to Indianapolis. There, we got together with friends to exchange Christmas gifts…including yummy home-made cookies. Most enjoyable, though, was sharing memories and a meal. One of our friends had just lost his mother to cancer so there was a bittersweet quality to the gathering too. He gave me a set of her holiday earrings and pin, which I was glad to wear in her honor.

As we drove back to Muncie, we made a short stop in Noblesville to drop off a watch accidentally left in Muncie last weekend. Once we left Noblesville, the skies opened up and made the rest of the drive a bit of a challenge. Thank goodness it was rain rather than ice or snow! As the Interstate continues to be torn up with construction and holiday traffic is dense, we drove home on SR 32…a much quieter drive which gave us an opportunity to enjoy Christmas lights along the way. Once home, the dogs were eager to go out (over and over again throughout the evening!). The cats were, of course, indifferent—or pretended to be. I wanted to finish reading the biography of Robert Todd Lincoln recently borrowed from the library, but as soon as I would settle, a cat on my lap, the dogs would want to go out again. They are old and cannot help it, but it seems reading will have to wait!

Called my sister in TN to check up on her and my brother-in-law (he was our newspaper carrier and a soda jock at a neighborhood drug store when we were all kids in East Cleveland, OH). They are looking forward to a gathering at their apartment community center next week. They promise to avoid any political “discussions” as they say they are probably the only “non-Trump” folks in their county. Their children and grandchildren live in NH and MA and are reported to be well…and with plenty of snow.

It has been a full day, so it’s time to let the dogs out one last time and get ready for bed.
