Diarist A15 Day 22

Diary Day

May 12, 2023

This day is not a typical day in Muncie because I am traveling to Michigan to visit my daughter and her family. Yesterday I was busy preparing for the trip. I had some church reports to gather because there’s a meeting shortly after my return and I’ve tried to get as much done as possible beforehand. Fortunately, people have submitted them to me, and I’ve been able to compile everything except one report. I’ll get that done when I return. I was also busy with a DAR meeting. I was sworn in as secretary of the local chapter, so I needed to be at that meeting. Both volunteer activities took time as I had my mind on preparing for my trip.

My daughter was working on Friday so there wasn’t a need to leave early. The drive isn’t too bad until the Toledo area then traffic is busy from there to Detroit. I left about 8:50 and stopped twice to stretch my legs. I had lunch at a fast-food restaurant during one of the stops. I used the car’s GPS system and found it to be very helpful. I like to know in advance which lane to get into and how far ahead I need to make a change. It always seems to take longer than I expect. I arrived about 2:00 and her husband was home. He and I both enjoy gardening, so he showed me around their yard and shared some of his gardening ideas for this year. Around 3:15, my granddaughter arrived home from school. She’s in sixth grade and very active in hockey and school. My daughter is a social worker who works on a hospice team. She was able to come home around 3:45. We relaxed and talked while she fixed a chicken stir fry for dinner. We had an early dinner because my granddaughter was in a school play, Aladdin, that night. She was in the ensemble and on stage 4-5 times. It was very cute! I was surprised that the school must have bought a program to show background scenes and recorded music that the kids sang to. It gave it quite a polished feeling without them having to make sets or have a band. I believe it was supported by Disney. Following the show, there was a trip to an ice cream shop which was quite an adventure as about 1000 excited middle school kids crammed into a small shop, all talking/singing at once. It was fun to remember the exuberance of that age. I was tired by the time we got home, but very glad I was able to share the experience with my family.
