Diarist A23 Day 21

January 1, 2023

Since early November, we have had a houseguest here at home. A coworker has found herself homeless, and we took her in, until she can work out her next new place. There are a lot of obstacles standing in the way of her making it into her next chapter, so we are trying to help out as best we can. Her ex dumped her, and will simultaneously not let her back into their apartment (both their names are on the lease), and she refuses to take the steps to have her removed from the lease. Well, it’s not so much that she refuses to let her back into the apartment, but if she moved back, her ex would actively make her life hell for having moved back. Her ex is a child and we all can’t stand her.

8:30a – I slept in, after staying up to meet the new year. I have also been sick (not COVID), so my energy level has been very low. This 4-day weekend will help a lot as far as getting rest. I get up, and go into the living room, where R was just waking up herself. I make coffee, she grabs a leftover brownie from last night, and I finish waking up while logging the Friday night D&D session we played a couple of nights before. We also watched the 1st episode of a 2-part documentary on the Manti Te’o catfishing incident. Hubs was dead asleep; he is working over 50 hours/week now, so on his 1 day off for the week, I am letting him be.

10:30a – R and I are doing this thing where we each came up with 12 movies to have each other watch. It’s been fun so far. We decide to carry on with this, and she shows me this biopic of Ted Bundy starring Zac Efron. It was ok, but they really should have cast Glen Howerton from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” to play Ted.

12:30p – We decide to have a very late breakfast. R cleans up the kitchen while I make bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwiches. It’s done right as Hubs wakes up, and the 3 of us eat and chat for an hour.

2:30p – Hubs goes into the spare room to clean up in there. That room is his man cave, basically, and he’s been letting it go of late. R and I just bum around in the living room for a couple of hours until I start to get put together for when people arrive here shortly. I remember now that I am totally fine with this day being completely lazy and recuperative. And I don’t apologize for it.

5:00p – The first friend arrives for the game. She is a little bit early, but has herself been sick and a little stir-crazy from being in her house for 3 days. The others arrive, and they bring the foods they promised to bring. We picked chinese tonight, and 1 person brought homemade orange chicken. I, not feeling well, gave hubs money to go get some crab rangoons and the little donut things. I had no appetite, and only nibbled on another player’s fudge that she brought with her. The game went ok, it was a little bit low-energy, with one end of the table still sick (no, we would not have got together if anyone thought there was any chance of spreading COVID). We were just sniffly and tired. Since R doesn’t play in this game, she went over to a co-worker’s place. I messaged her that we were done playing and I got the reply “OK, XXXX asked me to tase them so I’ll be back after I do that”. You really do have to make your own fun here, I guess.

10:30p – The players all leave, and it’s just the 3 of us at home, winding down. This is Hubs’ 1 day off for the week, and I kind of feel bad he spends it exerting that much energy DMing a D&D game.
