Diarist G58 Day 15

DIARY DAY …   SEPTEMBER 24, 2020

6:20am As I often do, I awoke early.  I practiced in my mind saying from memory the 66 books of the Bible forwards and backwards, taking about one minute each direction, also, I played my electronic game, and held it in such a way so as not to awaken my wife.  I was hoping to drift back to sleep, especially since we did not have any early appointments.

7:07       I have a habit of noticing when I happen to look at a clock if all of the numbers are identical as in 4:44, or if the hour and minute numbers are identical as in 7:07, or if the clock just happens to be on the hour, as in 1:00, and when I see such numbers, I say a silent prayer for the moment, which is comforting.

7:52       Finally, I gave up and got up.  I went downstairs and fixed breakfast for my wife and I, and brought it back upstairs. Mine was a smoothie, which was nutritious and delicious.

8:20       I prayed, studied my devotions, while eating breakfast.

9:15       Today, Thursday, is trash day in our neighborhood.  I return our two empty trash receptacles to their place beside the garage.  I also return the empty trash receptacles for seven other neighbors. Some of which are community servants and I do it as a “Thank You,” since they are not always home and available that time of day.  Included is a police officer, ambulance driver, two nurses, a school teacher for autistic children, and some retirees.  While I was a couple of houses away from my house, I saw a fellow in the front yard of one of the houses.  I introduced myself and found that he is the handyman for the lady that lives in that house.  After a brief conversation we realized that we knew some of the same people, including my step-mother, and some cousins.  Learning that he, and his partner, who I just met also, were handymen, I asked for a business card.   I asked them to come over to my house, when they could and advise me about a couple of projects that I had at my house.

11:15    In anticipation, I got some equipment out, including extension ladders, to expedite their checking, so they would realize what equipment I had, and that they would not have to bring with them.  One of the two problems, he fixed on the spot, and the other project was in the yard.  He, and his colleague, gave me great advice in that regard.  They truly were awesome.  They would not take any money for their service.  Although, we are considering hiring them to perform the yard service. They did mention that this is their spare time job.  They both are firemen, and this was a day off.

11:45    I fixed a meal for our dog.

11:55    I returned the above equipment to our storage barn (shed).

12:15pm I watered parts of the yard and calibrated our new sprinkler for the other parts.

12:50    I sorted through some items we have in our home storage, some of which will be donated, some trashed, in the near future.

1:00       I just happened to look at the clock and noticed it was on the hour, so I said a silent prayer for strength and courage, then I went back to sorting some home storage.

2:15       Leave home for wife’s eye doctor appointment.

2:30       Catch up on communication and correspondence while waiting.

4:30       Left doctor’s office.  Wife’s eye was injected which caused it to bleed, and made her uncomfortable.

4:44       I said a silent prayer for her healing.

4:45       I took wife home, and I went to WM for Rx’s.

5:10       I went to Ruler Foods to look for a specific item that our daughter told us about.

5:25       I then went to Roos Holistic pet food store looking for a specific food for our dog that we had heard of.  They did not have it, but I bought some equivalents.

5:35       Our dog was ready for her second meal of the day, so I fed her.  Her food dish typically has a variety of at least 5 different food items, and sometimes 7.

5:40       We stopped at a neighborhood mask business near our home.  The lady makes them in her garage, and has a large variety of beautiful fabric masks, which she sells.  We had driven by several times, but had not stopped. While looking, I noticed a display which included pictures from my high school, and their basketball team from the year after I graduated.  The lady noticed my interest and asked if I went to school there, and I said yes.  She asked when I graduated, and I said 1962.  I asked if she graduated there, and she said “Yes, in 1955.”  I then said, “That is the year my sister graduated.”  She asked her name, and she then indicated that she knew her, and mentioned my sister’s boyfriend’s name, which was amazing since the boyfriend had graduated from another school, so this lady could not have been a classmate of him.  She went on to name some of the businesses that my family was in back in that day.  This was another coincidence that proves to me that we should be more friendly with others, of course with caution, but we never know what connections we have with people we see everyday.

6:10       I went to Burger King and bought two Vegan Impossible Burgers for our dinner.

6:20       One of our daughters came by to drop off an eye patch for her mother, my wife.  Also, we discussed Muncie Community committees that our daughter is on, and their current activities.

7:15       We had not eaten yet, so we heated up our food, and ate a late dinner, no problem.

7:55       I opened today’s mail, posted financial items to our online records.

8:30       Having recently been a patient for a spinal injection, followed by Physical Therapy, I now replicate the stretches and exercises I learned in PT at home on a routine basis.

9:09       I say a silent prayer for guidance.

9:10       We are planning to fly to Denver for a granddaughter’s wedding in early October; therefore, my wife and I having been discussing the clothing, and other items we need to take for our trip of 6 days.  From formal, to semi formal, to casual wear, and staying within the weight limit for checked luggage can be a challenge, but it will be worth it for this special occasion.  We have flown numerous times in the past for business, but this is the first time in 6 years, and with the virus concerns, it is a challenge, but absolutely worth it.  We are looking forward to it.

9:50       I headed to bed to read, play an electronic game, and practice reciting the books of the Bible to myself, and then to pray, before dropping off to sleep.
